2014Pure Simple Outdoor Baby: Naomi
Pure Simple Outdoor Baby photography with Naomi was the most precious tiny little thing. Weighing in a just over 5 pounds and fresh out of a two month stay in the NICU, it was hard to believe that Naomi started life even smaller at around two pounds. We photographed at the sunset hour in Cleveland Park. Runners kept going by and gasping when they realized the thing we were staring at was a tiny little baby.
My favorite images with newborns are always family images and especially mothers with their babies. Images of Naomi with Beth are even more beautiful because you’re able to see just how tiny Naomi really is. Her little girl doesn’t even stretch from Beth’s fingertips to the crook of her elbow. Beth was the sweetest mama, praying over and soothing her sweet little girl during posing. Rocking effortlessly while we posed Naomi in her arms. Beth being so relaxed helped Naomi relax into each pose. It was such a joy to watch.
Babies are always picky about the positions that they prefer for posing. Preemies are especially sensitive to posing and much stronger than a typical newborn, so they always call the shots during each session. My littlest clients are people and I honor their wishes. Naomi had a strong preference for being posed on her back rather than her tummy. So we started with tucking her into this 13.5″ wooden bowl. She loved this bowl… I almost wanted to send it home with Beth for naps!
Here’s a little video of all the sweet noises Naomi makes while settling into sleep. So precious!
Our favorite set up for the evening was the following one. Beth’s favorite color was purple and Naomi’s gingered hair and fair skin was beautiful next to purple! She loved being wrapped into this cozy little ball.
We did see Naomi’s eyes briefly, but wrapped up tight and rocked gently, she always fell back to a gentle slumber.
Beth, thank you for sharing your precious miracle with me for the evening. I enjoyed so much rocking Naomi and seeing your peaceful transition into motherhood after such a rough start.
