Toddler Activities

Toddler Activity of the Week: Lentils

Dumped these lentils in these great tins (Thanks, Chelsea!) awhile back along with some bowls, spoons, and measuring cups. We love this type of sensory play. There’s some chickpeas and popped popcorn added in for spice. They asked for a baking tray to spread them all out on. Aeralind loves learning to sweep them off the table and onto her hand or into her bowl. Bronwyn and Mommy just love the stress relief of running our fingers through the whole mess.

Toddler Activity of the Week: Potty Training

Spent a lot of last week with two kiddos sitting in the hall while Bronwyn did this.  Lots of reading.  Lots of pictures drawn on the Doodle Pad (and I still haven’t mastered drawing an owl that the girls don’t erase immediately!!!).  Lots of chocolate chip rewards.

I just can’t get over this kid.  It’s been four days since she’s had a pee accident.  Poop is still rough… but that’s okay. She’s even started being dry at the end of naps! And she’ll use a potty anywhere: the museum, Hobby Lobby, Church, Chick-fil-a.  Anywhere!

I’ve never been so proud of her for deciding to do something and letting nothing get in her way.  And, of course, she’s eating up the praise! Love her!

And while we use the rest of the disposable diapers we already had for Sedryn, I feel sort of liberated and the very few cloth diapers I’ve had to wash every 3 days (with a few gross panties thrown in too).  Life with just one in diapers (when Aeralind is ready) is going to be great!

Two weeks of Toddler Activities

We were all sick last week.  So much so that we actually had daddy stay home one day to take care of all of us!  So I didn’t get a chance to post about our Toddler Activities.  So here’s two in one.

One of the girls’ favorite things is to go on a hike.  Usually we all go with daddy.  Mommy is a little scared to go hiking with the girls alone.

What if they both tripped and fell? How would I be able to hold them both while wearing Sedryn?  What if they both went running for the nearest water feature in different directions?  How would I stop them both?

It was a balmy 70 degrees that last week of January… and I braved a hike on a local college campus.  I was too stir crazy to stay inside!

Let’s just say a good old fashioned walk wears these girls out!  And we all love it 🙂

Oh, and on this walk a kind older gentleman showed us a wasp nest whose eggs were just hatching.  It’s one of the rare moments I’ve ever seen Bronwyn a bit scared 🙂

Balmy weather… please come back soon!

While we were all sick and trapped in the house as the tempertures steadily dropped all week, the girls and I invented this silly activity with a couple of tape measures.

Don’t judge!  We were desperate for fun 🙂

Toddler Activity of the Week: Good Night Moon

My girls have an obsession with Goodnight Moon

Seriously… it might be an addiction.  I’ve written about it before when they were younger… but now that they’re older, it’s gotten worse!  Is there a Goodnight Moon Anonymous group?

I read Goodnight Moon four hundred times a day.

Did you know that the mouse is in a different place each time he shows up?

Did you know that the mouse eats half the bowl of mush?

Did you know there is an elephant, a giraffe, and two dolls on the bookshelf?

Did you know that the two books that you can see the cover of (one on the night stand and one on the shelf) are Goodnight Moonand The Runaway Bunny?

I do.

Not that this is inherently a bad thing.  I can’t tell you how many vocabulary words my girls have picked up from looking at the pictures.  It’s astounding what detailed bright images can do to stimulate these little minds.

For Christmas we were given Goodnight Moon Game.  I was apprehensive.  Could toddlers under 2 and a half really even play this or enjoy it?  I’ll let you see for yourself.

Linking up with Julia for Mama Loves this week 🙂

Toddler Activity of the Week: Hobby Lobby

I know: Hobby Lobby is a store…but for us… it’s like a free giant preschool playground.
(Well, it’s only free if I leave my purse in the car… otherwise something comes home with us…)

We work on vocabulary.  We work on sensory things like: soft/rough and lite/heavy.  We run around like banshees and push brother in the cart.

But rather than tell you all about it… I decided I would show you some of the ways the girls learn.
Here’s how you can entertain two toddlers at Hobby Lobby for at least an hour and a half!
(Warning… this is pretty video heavy!)
