Greenville SC Newborn Photograpehr

I think you’re in the right place! Hi, I’m Melissa, 14 year owner of Quiet Graces photography. I specialize in timeless newborn fine art. Need to hear a little bit more about working with me? Then keep reading this post about baby Shrey! Shrey’s family, like many of my newborn clients, booked after Shrey’s birth. I recommend booking beforehand to ensure your spot on my calendar, but I do tend to have a few slots open no matter what! After booking, clients fill out a session planning questionnaire where they’re able to pick the poses, props, and colors that match their desires. My studio has props, wraps, newborn outfits, hats, headbands, and even a family wardrobe. The family wardrobe has dresses for mama and girl siblings in pinks, whites, cream, and some greens. For boys and men, I have cream, gray, and khaki tops all ranging from size 2t-adult XXXL. However, if you prefer more color you can bring your own wardrobe items as Shrey’s family chose to do.
On the day of the session, I recommend making sure your baby has an awake period and a heavy feeding before leaving your house. When you arrive, I help you get your baby out of the car seat and un-dressedwhile keeping them asleep. Zipper rompers help make this easier! If your little one is asleep, I’ll do family photos first. My studio is warm for your baby’s comfort and I don’t want you to sweat! If your baby is awake, I may do a few prop images to see if they will drift off before family photos. I always move sessions at your baby’s pace with plenty of time for feeding and soothing.
Within a few hours of your session, I post a sneak peek on social media for you to enjoy and share with friends and family. In the next couple of days after your session, you receive an online proof gallery and are able to pick your digital file package and your favorite images. Most clients pick packages of 30 digital images. I have those images fully edited and in your inbox within 2 weeks of your session date, but often earlier than that!

Anniston came to the studio at one month and one day old. Like all older newborns she had a much more awake time in the studio and created a variety of cute expressions, but she did fall asleep. More than that, I was able to pose her in the “newborn” style that my clients love including several of the poses her mama had picked.
Anniston’s mama Shelbey chose peach and cream backdrops in addition to my little nest and bed as her preferred props. I think she chose the perfect shades to compliment her home and nursery, but they also look so beautiful against Anniston’s skin. There’s this timeless and dreamy quality to these portraits one peach and cream. They contrast beautifully with my darker floor for the prop setups. I especially love this little next set in my circular wood print! Anniston looks like a tiny elf from Rivendell.
One of my favorite images from the session was this one of Shelby and Anniston. Shelby wasn’t prepared to be in photographs, but I do have a client wardrobe available so I asked her to change and give one a try. Since my clients always pick their favorite images for their collections, it was low risk. Shelby didn’t have to pick this image. Yet, so often mamas are the ones behind the lens and not in the picture. It’s really special to have a picture together when Anniston was so small she fit in Shelby’s arms.

Imani is 22 days old in these portraits. Many newborn photographers won’t take babies over 14 days old, but I have found that to be a bad policy. Your baby deserves to be documented beautifully no matter their age. I usually caution parents that we’ll get more awake images and fewer super bendy poses. You can see that Imani was quite awake for the following photos!
I also send you a list of tips to make sure your “older” newborn sleeps through the session. I ask you to make sure your baby has a full tummy and has an awake period before your session. I recommend a warm bath to help facilitate that awake period before hopping in your car. These things coupled with a warm room and a soothing sound machine almost always get us a set of more squishy newborn poses!
When Imani woke, we did some images in safer props and in Mom and Dad’s hands. I try not to waste time in the studio if your little one isn’t hungry or fussy. But if they are hungry or fussy, we do plenty of breaks for feeding and soothing! Your baby will always be treated with respect.
Imani eventually settled into a deeper sleep and we moved through the following set of poses. These are my go-to poses for older newborns and they always turn out lovely and comfortable for baby!

This is precious Jack and his mama Ashley and daddy Jordan. Jack is a little over a week old in these photos here. This is my preference for ages of newborns, but I do work with newborns up to 8 weeks and will do some fun sets for older babies, too. Ashley booked just after Jack was born and I was able to work her in, but I always recommend booking in your 2nd or 3rd trimester to guarantee a spot on my calendar.
Before the session, I have parents pick out the colors, props, and poses that they’d like most. I use a questionnaire and video of previous sessions to help you make selections. I do my best to honor your wishes for poses and props while balancing your baby’s comfort level. Your baby is always respected as a person in my studio. I will not force a pose and do my best to flow from pose to pose while they sleep peacefully in my warm Timeless Newborn Photography Studio Simpsonville SC.
Clients are also able to make specific requests in their session planning. I loved including this family heirloom watch in Jack’s session. His tiny hand on this precious heirloom especially melted my heart. However, my favorite images are always family images. Many mama’s hesitate to be in family images and this is why I provide a mama wardrobe and the teensiest Photoshop makeover. New mamas won’t always have a just delivered body after all!
