Remember smiley little Anna Beth? No? Let me remind you.
This tiny little girl won the 2014 Quiet Grace Newborn Superlative for the most smiles caught by the camera!
She’s all grown up now. I hear she’s even giving up the bottle this week. Anna Beth took some time to come back to visit for baby cake smash photography.
Cake smash sessions, like all of my baby sessions, are short and sweet. Babies old enough to crawl and walk do not stay put for very long. I have learned to work FAST!
The following images were all taken with just a few minutes.
I have so much video footage of Anna Beth running off the backdrops and her parents swooping in to catch her. There’s a reason I tell my baby milestone mama’s to bring yoga pants to the session! You can see a little bit of that footage in this video and photography montage below.
I have to say my favorite image from this session was Anna Beth getting tired. She was totally done with both me and her cake. Don’t worry, she only cried for a few second before her daddy swooped her right up! To me this image just tells the story of how during the first year so much of Anna Beth’s Mama life was soothing this face into giggles. It’s such a hard (on mama) but precious time.

2015You have met Everett before as a newborn, at 6 month old, and at one year. His parents bought a grow with me plan.
We wanted to do a little something different for his 18 month session so we planned to capture a day in the life of 18 month old Everett.
This may be one of my favorite sessions ever and definitely my favorite way to capture the ages of 1.5-3 years old.
Play the movie below to see all the beautiful images from this session!

2015Is it wrong of me to have favorite clients?
I mean, it’s totally not okay to have favorite children (though I firmly believe that each child has a season where they are the favorite… for 18 hours or so before another child is crowned favorite. I digress.)
These guys might be my favorite. I mean as soon as I enter their space, the love is tangible. I think I could cut all that love up and serve it like Thanksgiving pie.
See?
This one too?
Of course, if my getting in trouble face was this adorable, I bet that I would be just as easy to love.
Maybe.
These pictures were to celebrate Everett’s first birthday. A day this family had long hoped for and simultaneously wished wouldn’t come. As a couple who struggled through the heartache of infertility, the first birthday is always even more bittersweet.
Everett started a chain of cake smash babies who were not so thrilled with their cake. He taught me a new trick though: just about any baby will dig out a cheerio even if they find the texture of icing less than favorable.
He did, however, make up for his dislike of icing with a good sampling of bubbles. I think he was a little disappointed that the bubbles were not as tasty as he hoped.
See? This is why they’re my favorite clients. Slippery bath time snuggles? Oh, and a love of eyelash and toe pictures. Yes. These are a few of our favorite things.
They are some of your favorite things too? Awesome! Want to be my next favorite client (I promise to rotate favorite clients just like I rotate favorite kids!)? Great, fill out this contact form and we’ll become best buddies. 😉

2015One of my favorite parts of being a baby photographer is getting to see little clients grow up right before my very eyes.
Here is Nick when I first met him at just over a week old. He had a bit of trouble falling asleep, but once he was asleep he was a dream!
Now Nick is an adorable ham for the camera! He was so easy going and pleasant for his session.
Usually for a 6 month session I capture a variety of expressions from sad to happy to pitching a fit to curiosity to “I want my mommy!” (at which point the session is over! Babies always call the shots in my studio). However, this was probably one of the few faces Nick gave me besides a full force smile. A little sly curiosity!
And then we were back to these full force grins even though Nick was teething and drooling up a storm! Nick’s mama and daddy are super laid back and fun so it seems only fitting that Nick inherited their nature as well.
Also, these liquid brown eyes that Nick has are simply amazing.

2015I couldn’t believe when it was time to do this guy’s one year old cake smash photos. This little guy just grew too fast. From the 10 pound newborn (yes! 10 pounds! Mama is a rock star!) to the little six month old to the big one year old, it all happens in a blink. I feel so blessed to have captured this little guy from the beginning.
Elliot has struggled with a number of food sensitivities/allergies so mama handmade his cake. It’s a sweet potato mixture with a coconut cream frosting. And it was so so good!
Most of my cake smash babies are so timid with their cake. They’re over stimulated from the new environment and the new food. Elliot’s mama did a practice run before our session (at his birthday party!). Therefore, Elliot had no problems diving right in. Hands, feet, and a few good smears on the flooring just for fun round out his experience with the cake.
With all cake smash sessions, we always do a few outfits before the cake. This sweet outfit has been worn by Elliot’s daddy and all of his brothers. I also have a handful of rompers and heirloom pieces for children in the 6-12 month range in the studio for client use.
Bu mostly I just love capturing these glorious naked baby rolls one last time before they evolve into toddlers. The drool. The squeeze-ability. The little personality that each baby has perfected by their first birthday.
