2018Remember twins Ford and Emerson? These two little loves came for their newborn session.
Now they’re back for their Greenville SC Twin Natural Cake Smash Photos!
Jessica requested simple, neutral, and causal for their smash set up. I have to admit, that is my favorite type of cake smash. I love keeping things simple so that the focus remains on your sweet baby.
We grabbed some eucalyptus, some cotton, fresh dahlias, bark plaques, moss, and the cutest twin naked cakes from Baking Sweet Scents (Christine is the best!!!). Add in the adorable outfits from Cora & Violet and we had the perfect simple set.
But even when you have the perfect set, babies may not destroy the cake. And while we made a huge mess and had plenty of nibbles, these two remained pretty clean 🙂
However, just like adults, baby twins always think the cake looks better on the other side. I guess they’ll soon learn that all cake is delicious!
After we played in the cake we took some portraits in these sweet monogrammed rompers that mama had got for their party.
I’ll let you in on a little secret: I did a Photoshop trick called a head swap on this photo. It really is hard to get both babies to look and smile at a the same time. One of them was blinking in this image so I used another image for that baby’s face. This type of magic isn’t always possible since the angles have to be the same, but when it is I always use it!
Jessica, you and your husband have done such an amazing job conquering the difficulties of the first year with twins. You’ve done so with grace and a sense of humor intact. So much humor that you picked the twin hulk smash images for your final gallery!!! I love it!
As you go into the year with double the no’s and twice the feet running in opposite directions, may you keep that humor. It’s so hard, but I promise their sweet twin bond and your joy over them will be sweeter each and every year. It’s worth it.

2018I have to admit, I love my creams and neutrals. If I could shoot only on my creams and neutrals, I’d be so happy forever. They never fail to inspire me. I love the way the draw attention to baby alone. But then you have sweet clients whose world is literally unicorns and rainbows and you know that color needs to shine for their cake smash.
You see, Gia is a rainbow baby. She’s a baby conceived after the unimaginable loss of a baby. Gia is also a miracle during a struggle with infertility, so sweet mama Marie also calls her a unicorn. Over the time I’ve known Marie, we’ve texted unicorn shoes, dresses, and rompers back and forth; I’ve giggled so much as I called myself her #enabler. 😉
So when Marie asked for a rainbow and unicorn theme, I knew it was right to branch out from my neutrals and embrace the color or all the colors as it was.
Cake smash sessions include a set, outfit, and cake planned with your inspiration. I love doing these! For Gia, tulle created her rainbow set. I’ll be using this often for rainbow babies in the future! We chose a purple romper and Dearest Dreams created this one of a kind unicorn headband to match. Marie squealed like a little girl when she saw this headband… and she may have sent a few text curses of joy :-p You’ll never know for sure.
Christine of Baking Sweet Scents created this ombre naked cake and I decorated it with some orchid flowers that seemed to me as rare and miraculous as a unicorn.
But babies are never really sure of cake. I never know if a one year old will cry or stuff her face. So I had big brother Frankie coax Gia to dive in and the result are some of my favorite images from the session.
We finished off with a bubble back and, of course, a unicorn towel.
Did I mention that we also snuck in family portraits which are included in every custom session?
Marie, thank you for always being a delight to serve. I can’t wait to see you again soon!

2017Hannah’s mama Silvia called me a little after Hannah’s first birthday for Simpsonville Cake Smash photos.
Silvia wanted to memorize ever little detail of her little girl. The time was moving so fast.
Silvia is from Germany and living and working here in the United States for two years. While laughing Silvia requested a cake smash because “Those just aren’t done in Germany and it will remind us of our time here.”
So we set up a cake smash and bubble bath for sweet Hannah and we had a blast!
Hannah was a little shy at the begging of her sessions which is truly normal for a one year old. This image of Silvia reassuring Hannah is my favorite from their whole session. As you can see, I won her over with the rocking horse above!
In Germany, they don’t do cake smashes like they do here in the United States. Silvia enjoyed creating a truly American memory.
But Hannah really loved splashing in the water. It was the highlight of her time in the studio!
Babies always love splashing around after their cake and Hanna was no exception!
Silvia and Hannah, I look forward to seeing you again as Hannah grows!
